Hormonal tests
What is: research in the blood of small hormonal quantities regulating important reproductive functions in woman. The most important are:
FSH, LH, Oestradiol, Progesterone.
When: in all cases of infertility. If menses are present tests must be done on the third day of the menstrual cycle and seven days after ovulation. If menses are always absent or rare any day is possible for hormonal tests.
Why: to predict biologic ovarian age. To detect ovulation and complex hormonal imbalances like policistic ovary syndrome, pinealhypotalamic dysfunction and early menopause. Hormonal tests are also useful during ovarian stimulation (hormonal monitoring).
How: simple blood test, fasting is not necessary.
Reliability: High.
