TESE (Testicular Sperm
Estraction)
When: in cases of
azoospermia. Why: because in the ejaculate spermatozoa are absent.
How: the same day of eggs aspiration or the day before, fragments of testicular tissue are taken with multiple biopsies. If spermatozoa or their immature precursors (spermatides) are found in the tissue they are used to perform ICSI. It can be done in day hospital under local analgesia.
Results: in cases where azoospermia depends on testicular function spermatozoa are found in 50% of cases, pregnancy rate is reduced in comparison with seminal ICSI.
Spermatozoa are always found in testicular tissue when azoospermia depends on obstructions of seminal conducts.
Risks: little (sometimes testicular oematomas).
Couple Involvement: very high.
